Kevin Feige Claims 'Iron Man' Franchise Could Go On Without Robert Downey Jr.

iron_man_2_80 Though "Iron Man" movies are strongly affiliated to Robert Downey Jr., Marvel Studios claims that the series could still continue even if the lead actor decides to bow out of the franchise someday. Kevin Feige, Marvel's President of Production, told Badass Digest that it is possible the armored hero film series would be like James Bond's.

"I think Bond is a good example," stated the film producer. He explained, "Let's put it this way: I hope Downey makes a lot of movies for us as Stark. If and when he doesn't, and I'm still here making these movies, we don't take him to Afghanistan and have him wounded again. I think we James Bond it."

While in comics world a character could stay the same age forever, Feige noted that should Downey Jr. stick to the "Iron Man" franchise for a long term, he could make the quirky superhero grow old. "I think [the character] can age with the actor, if the actor stays with it," he claimed.

Downey Jr. has starred in both "Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2". He will appear as the Tony Stark alter-ego in "The Avengers", which will open wide in the U.S. in less than a week on May 4. The Oscar-nominated actor is also gearing up to reprise his iconic role in "Iron Man 3", which will kick off filming in North Carolina this May.

The "Iron Man" chat aside, Feige also weighed in to clarify recent rumors that Sony Pictures execs are not fond of Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man" movie. "I think the term reboot has to go. I think it's like after the 'Star Wars' movies nobody likes the idea of prequels, and reboots have turned into the same thing. It means 'Oh they've run out of ideas! It's bad'," he said.

Defending the anticipated web slinger movie, which opens nationwide on July 3, Feige gushed, "I've seen 'The Amazing Spider-Man'. It's awesome. It's totally fresh and unique."
