Thorsten Heins today revealed that BlackBerry 7 handsets would not be getting BlackBerry 10 explaining that the architecture between the two is too different
BlackBerry 7 handsets will not be compatible with the new BlackBerry 10 operating system as their differing architecture makes it impossible to place on older devices.
Speaking to press CEO Thorsten Heins revealed that in turning things around for the company they had to start from the ground up, and in doing that, they would have to make some sacrifices.
"Building an OS from bottom up is not an easy task it takes years, continuing with the OS we had we knew it was limited in its architecture."
Talking about possible alternatives to BlackBerry 7 Heins noted that the company had considered going open source with BlackBerry but decided otherwise after looking at companies who had already adopted this model.
"Looking at open platforms out there and looking at some of the companies that use them didn’t really give us a good feeling about using them."
"We have to build a new mobile computing platform for the next decade."
